Winter Courses in Needle Felting
The following workshops will be held in Islesteps Hall as it is spacious, well equipped with tables and warm.
The hall is located just a couple of miles from Dumfries on the Solway Coastal road. Full directions will be given when booked.

There will be a sales table on the day and payment for both the course and any sales can be made by credit/debit card.
You will need to bring a packed lunch with you. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided and available throughout the day.
I try to make the day as informal as possible and give out notes etc to take home to remind you of what we have covered as well as ideas to work on in class.
Saturday 1st Feb Get Started with Dyeing
We will be using acid and procion dyes on this workshop and using various dyeing techniques. You will go home with 100g of dyed fleece for spinning or felting/50g dyed roving for spinning or felting/ 50g wool skein for knitting or weaving/ 1 fat quarter of cotton fabric/ various threads for weaving, stitching or tapestry/pre-felt pieces
The class is limited to 10 only. The cost is £28 which includes all the materials and use of equipment. You will need to bring some rubber gloves, apron, plastic tubs and bowl or tray for dyeing the fibre.
A sales table will be available for purchasing further supplies of dye.
Sunday 2nd Feb Experimenting with Dyeing
Rather than using the primary colours we will be using additional colours and techniques. Again we will be working with raw fleece, roving, fabrics and threads. As well as dyeing fleece there will be the opportunity to make a batting to create interesting fibre to work with and also setting up a couple of plant dye pots. This will be a fun day playing around with ideas, techniques and various ways of bringing colour into your stash.
The cost is £28 which includes materials and use of equipment. If you book for both days then the cost is £50
Needle Felting - Basics and Beyond 10.30 - 3.30
This class is suitable for those who have never needle felted before as well as those who have done a previous course with me and just want to improve their skills. For those who are just
learning we will do three items: a brooch, a landscape and a choice of a third item. For those who want to improve their skills and play with new
ideas probably already know what to expect...lots of fleece, backgrounds, ideas and inspiration and will be given the opportunity to ‘dive in’ and play.
All materials are supplied with a wide selection of hand dyed and natural coloured fleece to choose from. You
will also be supplied with foam, needles and worksheets to take home with you. All this is included in the costof £25.00

Experimental Needle Felting 10.30 - 3.30
We will be using dyed blanket, prefelt, hand dyed fleece and textured wool. Lots of inspiration and ideas to work on. We will also be exploring ways to make and use silk paper to felt
onto as well as having a go at minimal wet felting adding felted shapes and silk fibres to create great backgrounds to felt, stitch and embellish on. A
day to play, relax and experiment with lots of fleece, fibre and textures to work with. If you have been on this course before then you are welcome to still take part as there are always new ideas to explore and materials to play around with.
The cost inc materials will be £25.00
The dates available is: Saturday 7th March
The Big Picture 10.30 to 3.30
In this workshop we will be working on a large picture. The mount will be supplied with the course and will then fit a 20 x 16 frame. I will have a box of pictures and photos to give you inspiration however you are welcome to bring along your own idea. We will be using hand dyed fleece, batting and roving and I will be sharing tips and techniques with you. Those who have already done this course are wel-come to come and do another landscape.
The cost is £28 for this course as this includes a larger piece of foam plus a quality mountTo take home with you.

Experimental Textile Day Sunday 5th April 10.30 to 3.30
We will be making silk paper and using all kinds of textiles today, lots of ideas, techniques and materials to work with. Make silk paper to make backgrounds to stitch on or book covers, Dye fabrics and threads to sew or quilt, use paper napkins for felting, collage or stitching and a lot more.This class is suitable for all those who love to felt, stitch or embroider. Don’t worry if you are a be-ginner! This class is for everyone who wants a fun day to immerse themselves in creating back-
grounds for future projects, making their own gifts or just to RELAX!
